Comprehensive Care Corporation Signs Agreement With A National Leader In Pharmacy Benefit Management

Comprehensive Care Corporation Signs Agreement With A National Leader In Pharmacy Benefit Management

TAMPA, Fla., July 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Comprehensive Care Corporation (OTC BB: CHCR), ("CompCare" or the "Company"), a leading behavioral health, substance abuse and pharmacy management provider for employers, Taft-Hartley health and welfare funds, managed care companies, third party administrators, and union–sponsored benefit plans, today announced the signing of an agreement with one of the nation's leading pharmacy benefit managers ("PBM").  The signing of this agreement completes the structure needed by CompCare to initiate the national launch of its Pharmacy Value Management Program ("PVM Program").  The PVM Program, constructed by CompCare over the last two years, is designed to save clients approximately 10% or more on their annual pharmacy spend by providing them with a pharmacy management price that is 10% less than their prior year's spend – fully secured by a performance bond.

Ramon Martinez, President of CompCare Pharmacy Solutions, Inc., said, "CompCare has placed all of the major components in the right order and is moving ahead with the initiation of the PVM Program.  We believe that we will use our innovative Fourth Party Pharmacy Value Network (4PVNTM) to change and improve the delivery of pharmacy benefit management while providing greater value and helping our clients decrease their costs in pharmacy spending."

In January of this year, CompCare announced the signing of its agreement with a leading, national surety bond provider giving CompCare the ability to "…back its new 'at-risk' Pharmacy Cost-Savings Program with fully guaranteed performance bonds." (See CompCare's release of January 8, 2013.)  In March of this year, CompCare announced the signing of an agreement with Blasters, Drillers & Miners Union, Local No. 29, Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA), which agreement provided, in part, for CompCare to make its PVM Program available to Local 29 and guarantee "…Local 29 a minimum of a 10% savings and backed up its guarantee with a full performance bond issued by a nationally well-known and respected surety company."  (See CompCare's release of March 19, 2013.)   In May of this year, CompCare announced the signing of a pharmacy management savings agreement with Utica City School District.  The agreement provides, in part, for CompCare to make its PVM Program available to Utica City School District and "…guarantee them a savings of at least 10% over their current pharmacy expense."  (See CompCare's release of May 13, 2013.)

In June of this year, the Company announced that under the leadership of Lt. Colonel Ramon Martinez (USAF, Ret.), President of CompCare Pharmacy Solutions, Inc. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Company), CompCare had successfully retained the services of core salespeople "…needed to head up national sales force to sell our PVM Program."  (See CompCare's release of June 10, 2013.)  The Company currently has on retainer the services of three full-time salespeople and five additional commission-only salespeople located throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico whose sole product is the PVM Program.  The target markets of the PVM Program range from self-insured employer groups to Taft-Hartley health and welfare funds, as well as managed care companies.

Simultaneously with the above activities, the Company continued to actively engage in discussions and negotiations with various PBM's in order to broaden its capabilities to provide its clients with the promised savings.  As a 4PVNTM service provider, CompCare orchestrates and contracts for the delivery to the Participating Groups of agreed upon services, a complex network of "best of breed" PBM service providers.

CompCare believes that the signing of its latest PBM Agreement completes the development of its 4PVNTM, positioning CompCare to offer its clients, and potential clients, the right PBM to service the client's membership through CompCare and make possible the guaranteed savings.

As a result of the signing of this agreement, the implementation procedure needed to initiate Local 29's new pharmacy program by year end has already commenced.  The Company anticipates commencing implementation of similar union and/or municipality programs during Q3 and Q4 of this year.

The U.S. pharmacy benefit market has an annual prescription drug spend of approximately $325 billion.  Management believes that given the uniqueness of its program, the quality of its sales force and its ability to attract clients by guaranteeing its performance at substantial savings off their prior year's drug spend, it will be able to penetrate a reasonable segment of the overall market within the next 24 months.

coffeeIf you're not a coffee drinker, today's blog post may not apply to you....unless you read news headlines.  This morning, I saw several news stories that made me think that my morning java had magical lifesaving powers.  Almost every news agency was reporting a link between coffee and a decreased risk of suicide. As it turns out, drinking coffee can't really save your life, but it did give coffee drinkers, like me, one more reason not to give up my habit.

HATFIELD, Regno Unito, July 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

I problemi comportamentali associati all'epilessia includono iperattività, aggressività, tratti autistici, depressione e bassa autostima.[7]

Note per gli Editori

Weight Loss For Women: Exercise and Diet Plan

Weight loss for women involves the same thing as it does for men. Eat fewer calories than your body burns on a daily basis and you will lose weight. The biggest mistake women make when trying to lose weight is dieting. Dieting is the act of temporarily adjusting ones eating habits to lose weight. This act has limited success in most cases. It is more constructive to make lifestyle changes. These changes are something you can live with on a daily basis instead of just for a few weeks or months at a time. Continue reading...

The class of drugs - known as glucagon-like-peptide-1 (GLP-1) agonists and dipeptidylpeptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors - includes Merck's $4 billion-a-year Januvia franchise, Novo Nordisk's Victoza, and Byetta and Onglyza from Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca, among others. ... “Nature will castigate those who don’t masticate”
Horace Fletcher

“Drink your food and chew your water”
Paul Chek

These two phrases come from different nutritionists, whose view on the importance of chewing your food ( a lot) matters – a lot.

But what does it mean? What can you gain, or lose, from more thoroughly chewing food? Can it really help you eat less and cut your calories down as much as many claim?

In brief, aside from some special cases like nuts, chewing more should help you cut calorie intake. Chewing more has many effects on feeding behavior, appetite, and digestion – some good and some questionable, depending on your goals.

Why You Should Chew More & Eat Slower

In one study, participants were fed small (5 grams) or large (15 grams) mouthfuls of chocolate custard, and allowed to chew for 3 or 9 seconds prior to swallowing1. Then, for the next 30 minutes they were allowed to consume as much or as little chocolate custard as they wanted. The results showed that significantly less chocolate custard was eaten if they were initially fed small bites and/or allowed to chew it more prior to swallowing. In fact, comparing the two extreme conditions (small bite size & longer chew time vs. large bite size & shorter chew time), the difference in subsequent intake amounted to 294 vs. 447 kcal – that’s a 52% increase!

Similarly, another study showed that subjects assigned to chew their food 40 times ate 11.9% less than those assigned to chewing it 15 times2.

Collectively, these data suggest that taking the time to enjoy your food, eat slowly & savor it, can cause you to eat less. Eating slower may be particularly important because it takes our brain and stomach about 20 minutes to register feelings of fullness.

The Curious Case Of Nuts

Nuts are a phenomenally complex food, consisting of a blend of proteins, fats, carbs, and fibers, all packaged tightly into small calorie-dense bundles. And the release of those calories may depend more on how well you chew than on anything else.

In one study, participants were given roughly 2 ounces of almonds per day and instructed to chew 10, 25, or 40 times3. The results showed that significantly less fat was absorbed when the almonds were chewed only 10 times. The subjects who chewed more reported feeling fuller and less hungry, but this may be due as well to the fact that they absorbed more calories, not only that they chewed their food more.

These findings were confirmed in another study, albeit indirectly. In this one, subjects were given either peanuts, peanut butter, or peanut oil, and fat absorption was subsequently monitored4. The peanuts most closely resembled the 10-chew condition in the almond study, peanut butter the 25-chew, and peanut oil the 40-chew condition. And the results were similar – peanut ingestion was associated with significantly less, and peanut oil significantly more absorption of the fat in peanuts. What this study suggests it that when it comes to nuts, sticking to whole nuts may result in less calorie absorption than nut butters and nut oils. While this is not a direct, chew vs less chew scenario, it does relate the idea that in either case, chewing seems to be our friend when it comes to less caloric intake.

Chewing More & Eating Slower Can Cut Your Calorie Intake

Based on the research examine here, when eating a mixed meal, smaller bites and longer chewing times may result in less hunger and eating less food overall. Chewing more not only allows for more absorbtion, but also seems to signal to the body that you have eaten enough, allowing your brain (which is slightly behind your stomach’s reaction to this) to register a feeling of fullness.

Federal judge halts new North Dakota abortion law, for now

The Red River Women's Clinic in downtown FargoBy Brendan O'Brien (Reuters) - A federal judge on Monday temporarily blocked North Dakota's new abortion law, the most restrictive in the country because it prohibits ending a pregnancy once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which can be as early as six weeks after conception. Banning abortions as early as six weeks, or before fetal viability between 24 and 26 weeks of gestation, would bar nearly 90 percent of the abortions performed at the Red River Women's Clinic, the state's only abortion clinic, said its director, Tammi Kromenaker. Vegan Uncensored: Why Vegans Need More Non-Vegans in Their Lives

There have been several times in the past few years when something has happened on the provincial (I'm in Canada) or national political scene, driven by public opinion, that has completely taken me by surprise. This is not because I don't follow the news, or because I am completely tuned out. It's not because it's something new for me to disagree with a lot of mainstream attitudes. However, I have started to realize that increasingly in my life I have been surrounding myself with people who have the same kind of values as I have, and this makes me think about the world in a certain way

There have been several times in the past few years when something has happened on the provincial (I’m in Canada) or national political scene, driven by public opinion, that has completely taken me by surprise. This is not because I don’t follow the news, or because I am completely tuned out. It’s not because it’s something new for me to disagree with a lot of mainstream attitudes.

However, I have started to realize that increasingly in my life I have been surrounding myself with people who have the same kind of values as I have, and this makes me think about the world in a certain way. I don’t think it’s unusual or surprising to surround oneself with kindred spirits; most of us want to spend time with like-minded people. With social media sites just for vegans, and even vegan love-match sites, it’s easier than ever before to connect with other vegans in this non-vegan world. Great, right? Who wants to argue or feel defensive, or spend a lot of time with people they feel just might be living on a different planet?

But in reality, taken too far, that’s a very dangerous thing for the vegan movement. It’s important for vegans to have a community of people to support them – one of the most enjoyable events in my month is the vegan potlucks where people in my community come together to enjoy delicious vegan food. It’s a chance to connect with people I feel I can be open and honest with. Similarly, most of my closest friends are vegans and people who have similar world views to me. This all makes sense, but I have started to realize that I NEED more non-vegans in my life!

In order to start and have – and get good at starting and having – constructive conversations about veganism and compassionate living, we need to reach outside our circles and face those conversations with courage and grace. Though we need vegan supports in our lives, it’s important to push ourselves to step outside our own comfort zones – not just by hanging out with non-vegans, but by forcing ourselves to have those conversations. This will not only allow others to hear what we have to say about the reasons for being vegan; it will allow us to maintain a realistic view of the world, and to hopefully find more compassion for “the other side.”

Acquisition of Devices, Methods and Intellectual Property Support Leadership Position in Regenerative Therapies

Acquisition of Devices, Methods and Intellectual Property Support Leadership Position in Regenerative Therapies

AUSTIN, Texas, July 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, July 17th, Celling Biosciences made an asset acquisition of devices, proprietary methods and intellectual property from Orogen Biosciences.  Orogen, based out of Sarasota, Florida, was an early innovator in processing platelet rich plasma (PRP) and concentrating growth factors and cytokines to optimize the most effective and efficient methods for providing therapeutic treatments with a patient's own tissue.   With this acquisition, Celling is furthering its position as a leader of point of care, autologous cell therapy.

Celling is focused on the three pillars of regenerative medicine (cells, substrates, and signals) known to enhance the environment for tissue repair, regeneration, and revascularization.  The devices (OPC and ACE) and methods from Orogen provide physicians with access to a patient's own growth factors and proteins to support the healing cascade.  There is a growing body of evidence in the literature of the role growth factors play in optimizing the healing in multiple pathologies across medicine.  The OPC device allows physicians to process autologous plasma at the point of care to deliver concentrated growth factors when compared to currently marketed options.  The ACE device is a unique technology that produces an enriched preparation of growth factors without the presence of white blood cells, red blood cells or platelets.

Additionally, Celling has acquired methods and devices for delivering allogeneic products to the veterinary market. Based on the short and long term success of these products in treating horses and canines in soft tissue repair, Celling will be well positioned to penetrate the veterinary market which is leading human efforts into the emerging market of regenerative medicine.

Celling has begun the process of transitioning Orogen revenues, opening a Florida office and launching devices to the market within the next quarter.  "We believe this is a unique opportunity for Celling to keep building our product and services portfolio in the autologous space.  We continue to expand our registered nurse service model across the country anticipating the orchestrated event in cell therapy between physicians and technology providers.  This acquisition is another step in adding sophistication to the process," says Kevin Dunworth, CEO and Founder of Celling Biosciences. We had a number of companies approach us about acquiring Orogen's intellectual property but we were waiting on the right fit both culturally and philosophically based on who we believed to be a leader in cell therapy innovation.  "We are extremely excited about this development and are confident that Celling Biosciences has the vision to create significant value in the regenerative medicine space," says Ryan Brandt, President of Orogen.

About Celling Biosciences
Celling Biosciences is an Austin, Texas based company working closely with world leaders in academia, medicine, scientists and engineers to research and develop innovative technologies in the emerging field of regenerative medicine.  Celling's product-offering focuses on autologous cell therapy and the devices and services that compliment these procedures.  For more information please visit:

Challenge on Monday, August 5th. We had a chance to chat with Sharon recently about the challenge, how it is different from other vegan kickstarts, why people should do it, and lots of other details…so read on!

Vegan Mainstream (VM): Why did you decide to host this challenge?

Sharon Palmer (SP): I believe that people can gain remarkable health benefits by taking on a more plant-based diet, no matter where they are.  If they’re eating meat three times a day, perhaps they could cut it back to once a day.  Maybe they can try Meatless Monday.  And if you’re a vegetarian, perhaps you’d like to try going vegan for 14 days, just to see how it feels.  It gives you a unique opportunity to give something a try and see if it’s for you.  When I did research for my book a couple of years ago, I had been a vegetarian for quite some time.  But I decided to try a 30-day vegan challenge, because I wanted to know what it felt like to be a vegan–how difficult it would be, how my body would react.  As a health expert, I felt that I needed to understand this first hand.  The experience was so positive, that I decided to stick with it!

VM: How is this challenge different from some of the other vegan kickstarts or challenges out there?

SP: My challenge is more flexible.  I believe that everyone can benefit from a plant-based diet and can do it!  While many may not consider a vegan challenge right from the start, they should be able to start with cutting back on meat and eating more whole plant-based foods.  After all, Americans eat meat at three times the global rate.  They can feel so good about making a positive change, and it can become a new lifestyle for them.  Can you imagine the impact on health–and the environment and animal welfare–if everyone in the US cut their meat intake by half?  I have had readers of my book make tremendous, positive impacts on their health by taking on this lifestyle.  I’ve had die-hard carnivores cut back on red meat to once a month and discontinue statins because their blood levels were so positive.  After they have made these more gradual changes, they may consider further progressing their diet towards a vegan lifestyle.

VM: Does it cost anything for people to get involved?

SP: No, this is a free service I’m providing to people to help them kickstart their health.

VM: What does being involved in the challenge entail for participants?

SP: All they have to do is sign up on the Go Plant Power FB page to get the daily alerts and instructions for the challenge.  We even have lots of prizes for those that get involved.  We will provide education and daily tips and recipes.

VM: What benefits do you think people who are participating in and really sticking to the challenge will see?

SP: I have people tell me that they feel better within a couple of days.  People can also lose a few pounds, which can help them get more enthusiastic about a healthy eating pattern for life.  People also gain a new understanding for healthy, whole plant foods, such as ancient whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans, lentils, vegetables, and fruits.

VM: Who is the ideal candidate to try this challenge?

SP: Anyone who would like to take their diet to the next plant-powered level.  Whether you’d like to go vegetarian for two weeks, give up red meat for two weeks, or even eat two vegetarian meals per week, this challenge is for you.  On the first day of the challenge, I ask you to consider your goals for health and sustainable living and then make your decision and set a goal.  Then every day I will guide you to eating more whole plant-based foods.

VM: How many people are you hoping to reach?

SP: I would really like to reach a few thousand people on this challenge.

VM: Why did you choose a 2-week challenge instead of longer, or shorter?

SP: I believe that two weeks can really give you the chance to learn about a new lifestyle.  It gives you time to see if it’s right for you, and whether you have gained benefits from it.

VM: Why should people try this?

SP: Hundreds of studies point to one thing:  a plant-based diet–a diet that focuses on plants, not animals–is the healthiest diet on the planet.  It’s not only rich in all of the good stuff–fiber, vitamins, minerals, phyochemicals; it’s low in all of the bad stuff:  cholesterol, saturated fat, toxins.  Most traditional, cultural diets are plant-based–whether you’re in Peru or Asia.  We have strayed away from our healthy plant-based diets to the typical American diet, which we know is linked with poor health–death, obesity, disease.

VM: What are the best resources you can recommend or tips you can offer for people who are just starting on a vegan diet?

SP: I believe my book is a great resource, it tells you how to do it healthfully.  There are also a number of brilliant books written on the subject by people like Neal Barnard, Virginia Messina and Reed Mangels.  The most important thing is to develop a cooking style that can support this diet.  You have to have healthy, plant-based foods that will meet your nutritional needs available.  You can’t just wing it.

Interested? Check out the Go Plant-Power! Challenge Facebook Page and sign up today!
